Though some people don’t have much choice in the matter, most people should look at three or more offers before they decide what they want. It might be tempting to take a card because of a special offer, but you have to look into the long term. When the offer or time period is over, what will your rate be and what will be the benefit of having the card?
There are many credit card deal that only last for a few months. You may be offered a great rate to start out with a card, but what happens when that deal runs out? Will your interest rate jump to something that is much higher than anyone else? You might also find credit card deal that offer you miles or a gift for signing up, but you have to look beyond those things to the true value of the card. Something might come along that is even better, and you may be able to transfer your balance and use a better card. Competition for your money is fierce, and there is no reason why you should get the very best of the credit card deal that are out there. You need a good card and you should get one, but make sure it is one that works for you long into the future.
